LEAK DETECTION

Our Plumbers are fully qualified and trained to use the latest leak detection tools and equipment for Electro-Acoustic, Tracer Gas, Pressure Testing and CCTV Camera Inspections. The Drain Surgeon Durban is constantly investing in new and latest tools and technology available.

When you suspect a leak but cannot pinpoint it, do not delay and call water leak detection right away. It is best to confirm the leak immediately so you can fix the problem before it gets worse.

LEAK DETECTION

WE’RE AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE!

Residential Leak Detection

Any size residential property, we have the skills and tools to help.

Commercial Leak Detection

With experience in Factories, Estates, Farms and even small towns to cities, The Drain Surgeon Durban has done it all.

Bathroom Leak Detection

We receive so many calls from customers who are frustrated and in many cases have spent a considerable amount of money finding leaks. Many trades and experts have inspected their shower or bathroom leak advising them to carry out repairs including replacement of components, only to find the leak returns after a short period of time. We don’t guess or assume! We follow a testing procedure to pinpoint the exact cause using the latest technology and know-how!

Ours Steps to locate water leaks

Flood test shower base, test drain, and puddle flange

Flood test bath / shower, basin waste and drainage

Test shower walls, shower screens, and fixtures using fluorescein dye or hot water

Test waterproofing – Most buildings 20 years or older don’t have waterproofing and most newer buildings only in the shower area

Test toilets, basins, drains, taps, isolation valves, and fittings

Conduct acoustic leak detection on water feeding pipes in walls and floors in the bathroom

Underground Leak Detection

Usually, the first sign of an underground water leak includes: a high water bill, water dripping or seeping, soft or muddy areas even though it hasn’t rained. Unexplained wet patches in or around slabs or paved areas. rising damp on footings etc. Sometimes the signs are presenting on the neighboring property. Do the test, turn off all your water supply including washing machines, toilets, taps, geysers etc., take a photo from your water meter, wait 10 minutes, and take another one. If the meter reading has changed, you have an underground water leak.
Underground water leaks occur when an underground water supply pipes break or leak, either alongside its length or elbows and other fittings. Leaks and breaks can occur because of invasive roots, shifting ground, or freezing or corroding pipes. Building standards have also changed over the years and therefore know-how is required in the various applications.

Hidden Leaks

Hidden wall and floor leaks are usually in plumbing lines and fixtures that are inaccessible unless accessed invasively. Building standards have also changed over the years and therefore know-how is required in the various applications.

Usually, the first sign of a hidden wall and floor leak includes peeling paintwork, water stains, water dripping or seeping, bulging architraves, door frames, plaster, mould stains, and bad odours. Do the test, turn off all your water supply including washing machines, toilets, taps, etc, take a photo from your water meter, wait 10 minutes, and take another one. if the meter reading has changed, you have a hidden wall or floor leak.

Hidden water leaks in underfloor slabs and walls can be very costly if not found immediately. apart from water loss, the damage it will cause to timber flooring, framing, plaster, skirting boards, etc. is extensive.

Acoustic Leak Detection

Acoustic microphones are used to detect and amplify the noise created by leaks in pressurized pipes. They are an essential part of any plumber’s and leak detection team’s operating equipment and are used to easily pinpoint exact locations of suspected leaks (last step in the generally applicable process Locate-Localise-Pinpoint). As part of the Intelligent Water Loss Management process, Acoustic Microphones are used to VALIDATE already pinpointed leak locations. The two basic options to use as microphone are the listening stick or the ground microphone.

Tracer Gas Leak Detection

Tracer gas leak detection is used for hard to detect, hard to reach, micro leaks. This is a non -destructive method to detect water and gas leaks using nitrogen, hydrogen, helium, and other gasses.
Protec 5 Tracer gas is introduced into the pipe with the suspected leak using a cylinder of gas. The tracer gas used to find water leaks is a mixture of gases that are completely safe to use in drinking water supplies being both non toxic, non corrosive and environmentally friendly.

The tracer gas contains hydrogen, which is the lightest and smallest molecule in the atmosphere, which will exit at the leak point and make its way to the surface where it is detected by the highly sensitive gas detector or “sniffer”. The smallest leaks can cause the biggest damage when left unattended. When your suspected leak is under heavy concrete or hard to reach areas, tracer gas leak detection is the perfect solution
In plumbing, gas is allowed to flow through the suspected pipes. The gas will flow up through the surface and through the leakage. This is how you identify the exact location of the problem areas.
When it comes to leakage, the trick is early detection and early intervention. Tracer gas detection may be used for tiny leaks but it is crucial in damage control. The smallest of leaks can cause severe damage and can rack up thousands of Rands in repair and maintenance costs if it is not resolved right away.
